poet Antjie Krog sought to “sieze the surge of language by its soft, bare skull” when she
wrote about apartheid in South Africa.


her imagery appeals to me.


as does her stance, “we tell stories not to die of life.”


Gregg is a fictional character i created to tell my story.


those of us who experience traumas, know our memories comprise our identities. we
know the anxiety of being revealed; know we become mute when we cry; know the pain
of piecing together what Krog calls, “new skin.”


i am not a therapist or a social worker or trained in any way to heal other people.
